Allen Graham Charity 4 Kidz and Specsavers Opticas join forces to help Mallorca’s disadvantaged children
Specsavers Opticas has come to an arrangement with local children’s charity Allen Graham Charity 4 Kidz to provide free eye tests and glasses for their children and collect donations over the next twelve months. In addition, the store will be a drop off point for donations of toys (in good, clean condition) as part of the charity’s collection to provide Christmas presents for the street children in Mallorca in collaboration with Planet Space.
Martin Blake, Store Director from Specsavers Opticas explained why they feel it is so important to support this charity in the run up to Christmas and beyond. “As a local business, we believe it’s very important to contribute to charitable causes which make life better for vulnerable people in Mallorca. The Allen Graham Charity does vital work in the area for children of all nationalities who need support and have no parents to help, so we feel that it’s a very worthy cause. Christmas is a difficult time for Mallorca’s street children, so we hope that by collecting toys in-store we can make this a Christmas to remember.”
President of the charity Rosemary Stone commented “This marks the start of a very positive collaboration between our charity and Specsavers. They have already raised money for us at their opening event raffle and we’re delighted that they will be continuing with this good work over the next 12 months.
In the New Year, following a fantastic offer from Martin, it is hoped that six older children that the Charity has supported since they left Children's homes, will be having free eye tests and glasses. This is something we have previously had to fundraise for, so it’s a great help to us. Thank you Martin and Specsavers!”
Allen Graham Charity 4 Kidz is dedicated to helping disadvantaged children and young adults in Mallorca who do not have the opportunity to develop the skills that ensure a secure and safe future. The charity provides homes and life skills for those who have been in care homes for most of their lives and suddenly, at the age of 18, have nowhere to go. Their aim is to assist them develop in such a way as to be able to achieve the things they want in life. In addition, they provide food parcels and clothing to support the children of local families who are going through difficult times and offer emergency grants to families with children in Mallorca who are in temporary difficulties, waiting for benefits or payments to come through.
To contribute to the Specsavers Christmas appeal for Allen Graham Charity 4 Kidz, bring new or well looked after toys into the store on Avda. Rei Jaume 1, 117, between now and 4th January and they will be given to street children for Three Kings. For more information call 871 964 331.
