MALLORCA SHOUTS OLE!

Spain celebrates with Mucho Gusto
Anyone wondering the streets of Mallorca away from the tourist resorts last night (June 29th) would have mistakenly thought that the local residents had gone to bed early. Wrong, they were all sat around TVs cheering the national team on to there first major trophy win for 44 years. Spain not only won the Euro 2008 cup but also won the hearts of millions of football fans as the played through the competition with easy stylish attractive football. Mallorca then came back to life as the final whistle was blown, exploding rockets and fireworks lit the night sky as celebrations began, it was still to be a long night. The next celebration for Mallorca? A win for Rafa Nadal at Wimbledon will do fine.

UPCOMING REGATTAS IN MALLORCA

Breitling Regatta - Puerto Portals
July 21st to 26th. Mallorca is the mid point in the series, which has already held regattas in Alicante, Marseilles, and Sardinia, with Murcia and Portimao (Portugal) to do after Mallorca. Referred to as the Formula One of yacht racing with the competing yachts (All Transpac 52s) professionally crewed, and the builders competing to get the very best out of each particular yacht. These are a one design (52ft Length overall) concept, but with enough latitude in the class rules to allow innovative construction and rigging techniques to enhance the yachts performance. Hence the comparison with Formula One racing cars, where the constructors are in competition with each other as well as the drivers competing to win.

Copa Del Rey - Organised by Real Club Nautica Palma.
26th July to 2nd August. Racing in 7 different classes, Thus making the rules, regulations and understanding of each class something of a specialisation in its own right. The Spanish Royal family participation is of course well known in this event.

XXIV Almirante Conde de Barcelona Trophy.
11th to 17th August. Muelle de Golondrinas Palma Organised by Real Fundacion Hispania de Barcos de Epoca. (Royal Spanish Foundation for Vintage Boats) For lovers of beautiful traditional craftsman built sailing yachts. Raced in 2 classes: Vintage, boats built before 1949 And Classic, boats launched between 1950 and 1975 (Including replicas of both classes if based on original design drawings and using techniques or materials of that design and build period).

PALMA SUPERYACHT CUP 2009
Next year the event will move to Meulle Viejo where the old fishing port area will already have been prepared to accommodate up to 20 superyachts for the boat show in April, and will be held from June 24th to 27th.
