| In Pollença from Wednesday, July 26 2001 there will be the fiestas in honour of the patron saint, these include the re-enactment of the battle of the Moors and Christians, dating back to the Catalan conquest.
This fiesta is to commemorate the battle by the population of Pollenca against 1500 Moors led by a pirate named Dragut. This great battle took place on May 30th in the year 1550.
This attack was the strongest that pollenca had ever experienced. The fact that the battle was won was thanks to the hero of the day Joan Mas, who ran through the main street (calle Major) warning every one of the dangers then returned to battle heroically against the enemy.
This mock battle to commemorate this event has been held since the middle of the 19th century, almost the whole of the town is involved, the Christians dressed all in white and the followers of Dragut in various colours.
On the evening of the 1st August a dance is held until the early hours of the morning (2nd August). The town then waits is suspense as at 5am the band plays the "Alborada" (the dawn), After this, mass is said through out the day along with other various activities until the battle is fought in the afternoon (7pm) After the battle the Christians return to the church for prayers and when leaving the church the band again play the "Alborada"
The fiesta finishes with the singing of the "Visca Pollenca" (Hooray Pollenca) and a grand firework display.
