| It is the second smallest municipality of Mallorca (12.03 km2). The name Lloseta already appears documented in the "Llibre del repartiment" as Lauzeta. According to some experts the name consists of two nouns, "laus" (praise) and "eta" (fortress); other experts say that the name Lloseta is formed by the Mozarabic noun "llosada", in Catalan "llosa", which means flat stone.
There are several prehistoric sites in the area including burial caves at es Corral des Porcs and Can Patos.
Agriculture flourished, and after the Catalan Conquest, it went to the Viscount of Bearn who established large farmsteads there. Centuries later, its prosperity enabled it to invest surplus capital in establishing a shoe-making industry.Lignite was mined from the beginning of the century until 1973 and work has been going on for several years to restore one of the mine heads, sa Truiola, which will be open to the public.
The Parish Church is dedicated to Santa Maria de Lloseta and was first documented in 1582. Its construction dates principally from 1763 to 1862. It has a Romanic figure dating from the XII. Century and two Baroque altarpieces from the XVIII. Century.
